Jehovah Jireh

The Lord will provide – Jehovah Jireh. This was Abraham’s declaration when God provided the ram for the burnt offering so that Isaac was spared. God the Provider worked faithfully in Israel’s testimony, and in the life of King David. He shows Himself Provider in our everyday lives today, and most potently, Jehovah Jireh was present at the cross. On Abraham’s mountain, God provided a ram and Isaac did not die. At the cross, God provided His very own Son to die for our sins, so that we could have eternal life with Him. God’s greatest provision to us is His love, shown at the cross where He made a way to restore us into relationship with Him.

What does it mean to experience the provision of God? First and foremost, I believe the provision of God is the capacity to experience His love, the gift of knowing Him.

[Romans 6:23] – “For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

Without this first provision of God – this way of conquering sin, we could not even come into the presence of God. Sin separates us from God, but through Christ, we have redemption and can experience His love for eternity.

[Ephesians 3:16-19] – “… that He would grant you, according to the riches of His glory, to be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith; that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all the saints what is the width and length and depth and height – to know the love of Christ which passes knowledge; that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.”

From here, the treasury of heaven is opened.

When we know Jehovah Jireh, we recognise His fingerprints on the earth.

[Psalm 65:9-11]
“You visit the earth and water it,
You greatly enrich it;
The river of God is full of water;
You provide their grain,
For so You have prepared it.
You water its ridges abundantly,
You settle its furrows;
You make it soft with showers,
You bless its growth.
You crown the year with Your goodness,
And Your paths drip with abundance.”

When we know Jehovah Jireh, we do not need to be anxious for anything.

[Matthew 6:31-32] –“Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things.”

When we know Jehovah Jireh, we know that nothing is impossible for Him.

[Luke 1:37] – “For with God nothing will be impossible.”

Jehovah Jireh provides like a Father.

[Matthew 7:22] – “I you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!”

Jehovah Jireh provides greater things than we can imagine.

[Ephesians 3:20] – “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”

[Philippians 4:19] says,

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

This “need” is anything we cannot do without. Ultimately God knows what we need more than we know it. He is able to provide better than we can for ourselves. All we need to do is lean on Him and submit ourselves to His faithfulness.

Jehovah Jireh, thank you for your gift of salvation, redemption, love and relationship by the cross. Thank you for sharing who You are with me. Thank you for being my everything.
